Jared Hunter Adams was twenty six years old, living in central Ohio, when the federal government found him with a Google map. FACT: Adams is from Ohio. Reporting places him in Plain City and in Hilliard, both in the Columbus area. FACT: he was arrested March 9, 2021 and charged by criminal information two days later. HERE IS THE RECEIPT. FACT: the Justice Department obtained records from Google showing that a mobile device tied to an account associated with Adams was inside the U.S. Capitol between 2:53 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. on January 6. Court papers described that location data as darker blue circles on a map. FACT: the FBI then compared his Ohio driver's license photo against social media posts and Capitol surveillance footage to make the identification. A driver's license photo. A Google location history. A geofence drawn around a building. That is how this case was built, and every American should understand it cold, because the same tool works just as well on a church parking lot, a union hall, a school board meeting, or a protest you happen to agree with.
