HIS STORY (FACT, per Chicago press coverage): James Robert Elliott is from Aurora, the second-largest city in Illinois, west of Chicago. He was 25 at the time of his sentencing, one of the younger defendants to receive a multi-year term. At the time of January 6 he was associated with the Northern Illinois chapter of the Proud Boys. THE LEGAL FIGHT (FACT, court record): Elliott was arrested and charged with assaulting, resisting or impeding officers in connection with January 6, 2021. He pleaded guilty rather than go to trial. He was sentenced to 37 months in prison, 24 months of supervised release and $2,000 in restitution. While incarcerated he filed a motion seeking early release from his sentence.
