Jacob Hawkins is a Michigan man who got on an overnight charter bus with his wife to go hear a president speak. That is how it started. A bus. A rally. A long night on the road out of Michigan. WHAT THE RECORD SHOWS FACT: Charging documents say Jacob Hawkins and his wife traveled overnight on January 5, 2021 by charter bus from Michigan to attend the rally on January 6. They entered the Capitol through the Rotunda Door on the east side. They were escorted out at 2:43 p.m. They came back seven minutes later. FACT: The government charged Jacob Hawkins with one thing. Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. A petty offense. No assault count. No weapon count. No felony. FACT: He was not charged until August 8, 2023, by Information. Two years and seven months after January 6. THE LEGAL FIGHT FACT: Hawkins pleaded guilty to the single charge. On January 12, 2024 he was sentenced to 24 months of probation, a $10 special assessment, and $500 restitution. No prison time was imposed. FACT: On January 20, 2025, President Trump signed the clemency proclamation covering the January 6 prosecutions. Jacob Hawkins received a full pardon. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE The misdemeanor he pleaded to is a trespass offense.
