Hector Vargas Santos is a Marine Corps veteran from Jersey City, New Jersey, a man his own neighbors once called an "unsung hero" for delivering meals to the homeless, before January 6 pulled him into a federal case. A Jersey City Times profile from months before his arrest documented Hector's work feeding people on the street in his community. THEIR ACCOUNT / NEEDS AUTHENTICATION on the "unsung hero" framing, as reported by local press, we have not independently verified the underlying charity work, but it is on the public record from a named local outlet, not a rumor. A jury convicted Hector on all four counts in December 2022. He was one of the first people through the restricted grounds outside the Capitol, and posted "WE THE PEOPLE TOOK OVER THE U.S. CAPITOL. #HOLDTHELINE" on Facebook that day, but the record he's compiled also states no accounts of violence directed at Capitol Police or anyone else. FACT, per court filings. He was sentenced to four months, appealed, and fought the case for years. President Trump's January 20, 2025 pardon ended it. Hector's conviction was vacated and the case dismissed as moot. He asked the court to refund the roughly $2,026 in fines and restitution he'd already paid, the court denied it in June 2025, ruling that money already deposited with the U.S. Treasury needs an act of Congress to come back, not a pardon. FACT, per court opinion. CASE RECORD: Case No. 1:21-cr-47, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Arrested 1/19/2021. Charged by criminal information 2/7/2021. Convicted by jury December 2022. Sentenced 4/21/2023 to four months plus fines and restitution. Pardoned and conviction vacated 1/20/2025. This profile is unclaimed.
