Gregory Richard Purdy is a young Hudson Valley businessman from Hopewell Junction, New York. He was 23. He turned himself in. He never served a day. THE MAN AND THE BUSINESS FACT: Gregory Purdy is part of Birchwood Management Group, the firm that announced plans to buy the 13 acre Davis College campus in Broome County, New York from owner Adam Weitsman for $4.5 million. Purdy said the group was looking at putting an artificial intelligence university on the former Bible college campus, and stayed open to other uses including senior living. Whatever else the government filed, that is in the record too. THE FIGHT FACT: Gregory Purdy surrendered to the FBI on November 10, 2021. Nobody had to come find him. FACT: He pleaded not guilty to every count and took it to a jury instead of taking a deal. FACT: A jury found him guilty on June 11, 2024. FACT: On January 14, 2025, the obstruction of an official proceeding conviction was dismissed. FACT: Sentencing was set for January 29, 2025. It never happened. FACT: On January 21, 2025, the court granted the government's motion to dismiss the case with prejudice. Gregory Richard Purdy was never sentenced, and the government cannot bring the case back. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE The case ended in dismissal with prejudice before any sentence was imposed. Social media quotes attributed to Gregory Purdy come from the government's charging papers, not from anything a court found to be true at sentencing.
