Gerald Powell is a York, Pennsylvania man whose federal case has a detail almost nobody else in this archive can claim: the government charged him under the wrong first name. Read that again. They came for a man in York County and put someone elses name on the paperwork. THE NAME ON THE PAPER FACT: NPR, working from the federal court record, notes plainly that Gerald Powell was "originally charged with incorrect name of Jeremiah Powell." (Source: NPR January 6 case database, compiled from federal court records.) DOCUMENTED INFERENCE: That charging error is why some public archives, including the NPR image file assigned to his record, still carry the name Jeremiah. It is the same man from York, Pennsylvania. The paperwork was wrong, not him. If you want a clean picture of how carefully these cases were built, start there. Three and a half years after January 6, 2021, federal agents arrested a Pennsylvania man and could not spell his name right on the complaint. THE ARREST FACT: Gerald Powell was arrested on May 9, 2024, in York, Pennsylvania. That is more than three years and four months after the day in question. (Source: NPR database; DOJ press release, May 2024.) THE CHARGES, AND ONLY THE CHARGES CHARGE ONLY: Civil Disorder; Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds; Disorderly Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds; Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building; Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. FACT: Gerald Powell pleaded NOT GUILTY to every charge. A jury trial was set for March 3, 2025. He never stood trial. HOW IT ENDED FACT: On January 27, 2025, the court granted the government motion to dismiss the case WITH PREJUDICE. With prejudice means the government cannot refile it. Ever. Gerald Powell was never convicted of anything arising from January 6. FACT: On January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE It does not prove what any camera saw. It proves what the docket says: charged, pleaded not guilty, dismissed with prejudice, no conviction. THE RECORD U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, docket 1:24-cr-268088 series. Charging document on file at CourtListener. Filed under two different first names. York County, Pennsylvania. This profile is unclaimed. If this is you, or your family, claiming it is free, forever.
