Geoffrey Samuel Shough is an Austin, Texas man who carried a Texas flag to Washington. Thirty-seven years old. The internet gave him a hashtag before the government gave him a case number. ## The legal fight Geoffrey Shough was arrested on March 1, 2022, in Texas, fourteen months after January 6, 2021. He was charged with civil disorder plus four misdemeanors. On August 16, 2022, he pleaded guilty to ONE count: civil disorder. The other four counts were dismissed. On March 22, 2023, the court sentenced him to 6 months of incarceration, 1 year of supervised release, 200 hours of community service, $2,000 in restitution, and a $100 special assessment. Two hundred hours of community service. That is five full work weeks given back. ## Clemency On January 20, 2025, Geoffrey Samuel Shough received a full pardon under the presidential proclamation covering January 6 convictions. ## What the record shows and what it does not FACT: Geoffrey Shough of Austin, Texas was convicted of one count, civil disorder. Four counts were dismissed. FACT: he was NOT charged with assaulting an officer. He was not charged with a weapons offense. He was not charged with conspiracy or seditious conspiracy. NEEDS AUTHENTICATION: the charging affidavit references a helmet decal and a December 2020 payment associated with an outside organization. Those are government allegations in a probable cause document. He was never charged with any organizational conspiracy count, and no such count was ever proven against him. An allegation in an affidavit is not a conviction and this archive will not treat it as one. DOCUMENTED INFERENCE: he was identified after two tipsters pointed the FBI to an ex-girlfriend who had broken up with him the week before she was interviewed. That is how the case against him was built. ## Case record - Case: 1:22-cr-197, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia (initially filed as 1:22-mj-30) - Complaint filed: February 17, 2022 - Arrest: March 1, 2022 - Indictment: June 1, 2022 - Plea: Guilty, one felony count of civil disorder, August 16, 2022 - Sentence: 6 months incarceration, 1 year supervised release, 200 hours community service, $2,000 restitution, March 22, 2023 - Clemency: Full pardon, January 20, 2025 This profile is unclaimed.
