Gabriel Chase is a history student from Gainesville, Florida. He was 22 years old at sentencing. While his federal case was pending he finished his associate degree and enrolled at the University of Florida for the fall 2023 semester. Most people, facing a federal prosecution, stop. He kept going to class. FACT: Gabriel Chase is from Gainesville, Florida, and was studying history at the University of Florida. (The Independent Florida Alligator; American Gulag) FACT: He was arrested September 20, 2022 on misdemeanor charges arising from January 6. He pleaded guilty on February 6, 2023 to parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building. That is a petty offense. It is the lowest charge in the entire January 6 docket. (DOJ record; American Gulag) FACT: He was inside the Capitol with four other people for roughly 30 minutes and appeared to walk along peacefully with the crowd. The government also alleged the group destroyed media equipment left on the north end of the building. He was not convicted of that. He was convicted of parading. (American Gulag, summarizing the government proffer; The Independent Florida Alligator) FACT: In July 2023 he was sentenced to three years probation, a three day term, and $500 restitution to the Architect of the Capitol. (The Independent Florida Alligator) FACT: Chase interned with the America First movement associated with Nick Fuentes from December 2020 to December 2021, and told the court he became disenchanted with Fuentes after January 6. (The Independent Florida Alligator) THEIR ACCOUNT: In his own words to the court, Gabriel Chase wrote: "I regret my part in what it did to our nation, our democracy, and to the congresspeople and law enforcement who were present." (The Independent Florida Alligator) He said it. He owned it. He walked away from the people who put him there. Then he went back to school. That is what a young man correcting course looks like, and the record shows it. FACT: On January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions.
