Farhad Azari fled a dictatorship in Iran, built a life in Richmond, Virginia, and raised a son in the country he chose. Start with that, because that is the biography. Farhad Azari left Iran roughly three decades ago and came to America. He is a Virginian by choice. He was 65 years old when he was sentenced, and his son Farbod stood in the same case beside him. FACT: Farhad Azari and his son Farbod fled oppression in Iran about thirty years before January 6 and settled in Virginia (WUSA9, Washington, D.C.). FACT: Farhad Azari, of the Richmond area, was 65 at sentencing (WUSA9; WTVR, Richmond). FACT: He pleaded guilty in January 2024 to civil disorder and to assaulting, resisting or impeding officers with a deadly or dangerous weapon (U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Columbia). FACT: He was sentenced June 7, 2024, to 30 months, with supervised release and $2,000 restitution (WTVR; Daily Progress). FACT: He received a full pardon effective January 20, 2025, and appears on the Office of the Pardon Attorney's list of pardon certificate recipients. A man who ran from one government's boot ended up in a federal case in the country he ran to. Whatever anyone makes of that, it is his story and it is true, and Farhad Azari is home in Virginia now.
