Ethan Mauck is an independent contractor from Troutville, Virginia, a father of seven with another child on the way and a wedding on the calendar, whose small business has taken hit after hit since January 6, 2021 turned his name into a headline. Here's the man behind the case number. Mauck runs his own contracting business in the Roanoke Valley. Local reporting five years out from the Capitol breach found him still fielding vandalism, still repairing property damage tied directly to who he is and what he did that day. His kids have been bullied at school over their father's name. That is the part of this story that never makes the news out of Washington: the price a family in Botetourt County pays long after the case number closes. The legal record itself is not soft. Mauck was tried alongside a fellow Roanoke man and found guilty in October 2024 of felony civil disorder along with entering and remaining in a restricted building and disorderly conduct. On January 6, 2021 he was at the tunnel entrance during the breach, passed along a speaker that someone else later threw at officers, pushed against police lines with bike racks and signs, and was pepper sprayed himself. He says he watched a man get shot in the cheek feet away from him. That is his account, and it is marked as such. President Trump's pardon in January 2025 cleared Mauck's legal record. His own words on it: "I don't regret going up there. I don't regret standing up for my country." He also says plainly that the pardon didn't undo the damage to his business or his kids, and that he hopes the country can eventually move past January 6 and rebuild something together instead of staying divided over it. That is a Virginia contractor, seven kids, an eighth on the way, a wedding planned, a felony conviction, and a presidential pardon, all belonging to the same man. Say all of it or say none of it.
