Eric D. Zeis is a 37-year-old man from Monument, Colorado, an El Paso County town in the shadow of Pikes Peak, who drove cross-country with a friend to attend a rally in Washington, D.C. on January 6, 2021 and ended up with a federal case number attached to his name almost three years later. Federal agents did not knock on his door in the days after the Capitol breach. Zeis was not arrested until November 2023, identified after federal investigators worked through crowd footage and tips for years. He and Justin Schulze, another El Paso County man, drove out together for the "Stop the Steal" rally. Inside the Capitol, according to the charging documents, Zeis was recorded saying "well we made it this far, what do ya say?" That is his own statement on video, marked here as FACT because it comes directly from the court record. The charges: obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder, entering and remaining in a restricted building, and disorderly conduct. No assault charge. No weapons charge. A grand jury indicted him on all counts in April 2024, and as late as January 18, 2025, Colorado Newsline reported his case was still pending pretrial, with a status conference set for that February. Two days after that report, on January 20, 2025, President Trump's clemency proclamation covered those convicted of January 6 offenses and directed dismissal of cases still pending trial. Zeis's case, per the most recent public reporting found, sat exactly in that still-pending category. What happened next has not been separately confirmed in the sources reviewed for this page, and that gap is marked below rather than assumed. This is the record on Eric Zeis: no violence charged, no weapon charged, a three-year gap between the day and the arrest, and a case caught in the exact window where a presidential order changed everything for defendants like him.
