FACT: By the government's own account, Staples entered the Capitol through a window near the Senate Wing Door, stayed for roughly a minute, took a few photos, and left the way he came in (Anchorage Daily News; Must Read Alaska). He was charged with four misdemeanors — knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building, disorderly or disruptive conduct (two counts), and parading, demonstrating, or picketing — with no allegation of violence. His was among the last wave of January 6 arrests, filed in early 2024. On January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency to January 6 defendants.
