David Charles Rhine built a life in Gig Harbor, Washington, the kind most people would call the American dream. Navy veteran, submarine propulsion plant operator, then a bachelor's and a master's degree, then his own firm: Cox and Lucy CPAs, still serving Gig Harbor taxpayers today. He sat on the board of the USS Turner Joy museum ship nonprofit as treasurer, giving back to the same Navy that trained him. David Rhine went to the Capitol on January 6, 2021, carrying a Navy Jack flag. He spent 22 minutes inside before Capitol Police removed him. FACT: A jury convicted David Rhine of four misdemeanors: entering a restricted building, disorderly conduct, and parading. Sentenced to four months, one year supervised release, $7,376 fine. No restitution ordered. FACT: President Trump pardoned David Rhine when he took office in January 2025. DOCUMENTED INFERENCE: Following the case, Rhine relocated his wife and teenage son to New York and stepped down from the USS Turner Joy board to avoid drawing negative publicity to the nonprofit.
