Daniel Joseph Rodriguez
Pardoned January 6 defendant
Daniel Joseph Rodriguez — Fontana, California. We are going to be straight with you about this file, because credibility is the only thing this archive has. FACT: On 2/28/2023 Rodriguez pleaded GUILTY to four felonies: conspiracy, obstruction of an official proceeding, obstruction of justice, and assaulting a law enforcement officer with a deadly or dangerous weapon. He admitted it. There was no trial and no dispute. (DOJ) FACT: What he admitted to was driving an electroshock weapon into the neck of MPD Officer Michael Fanone, and doing it again as the officer tried to get away. Officer Fanone suffered a heart attack and a traumatic brain injury. He had served his department for 20 years and resigned in December 2021. (DOJ; NPR; NBC News) FACT: On 6/21/2023 Judge Amy Berman Jackson sentenced him to 12 years and 6 months in prison, 36 months of supervised release, $2,000 restitution to the Architect of the Capitol, and $96,927 to the Metropolitan Police Department. (NPR; DOJ) FACT: On January 20, 2025, President Trump issued clemency in January 6 cases. Confirm individual status against the docket before repeating it. WHERE THIS ARCHIVE STANDS: Our mission is to give people something true to hold onto. We do not have positive material to offer here, and we are not going to invent any. A police officer was seriously injured and the man who did it admitted to it under oath. That is the record, and softening it would make every other page on this site worth less. If there is a real story we are missing — service, family, work, recovery, remorse in his own words — his family can claim this page and tell it. We will publish it if it checks out. What we will not do is dress up an assault on a cop. THE CASE RECORD Case 1:21-cr-246 — U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Arrested 3/31/2021. Indicted 11/19/2021.
