Dale Huttle is a Crown Point, Indiana man who was in his seventies when the federal government came for him, and he never once pretended to be somebody else. FACT: Huttle is from Crown Point, in Lake County, northwest Indiana. FACT: he was working in Merrillville, Indiana when the FBI arrested him in the fall of 2022. NEEDS AUTHENTICATION: the Justice Department press release announcing his arrest listed his age as 61, while local reporting at sentencing listed him as 73. This archive has not reconciled the two figures and prints both rather than pick one. THEIR ACCOUNT, in his own words to CBS News Chicago after his arrest: "I did no harm. I did it with passion and conviction." "We were invited there by the president himself." "I am the ultimate patriot because I put myself on the line." "I have no regrets. I will not say I'm sorry." You do not have to agree with one syllable of that to notice what it is. An old man from northwest Indiana said it on the record, with his own name attached, knowing exactly what it would cost him. Most people in this country will not put their name on a restaurant review. THE LEGAL FIGHT FACT: a complaint was filed October 28, 2022 and he was arrested in November 2022. He fought the case for over a year. FACT: he pleaded guilty on December 8, 2023 to one count of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers using a dangerous weapon and causing serious bodily injury. FACT: the government asked the court for 85 months in prison. FACT: on June 18, 2024, U.S. District Judge Christopher R. Cooper sentenced Dale Huttle to 30 months in prison, 24 months of supervised release, and $3,639 in restitution. The court gave the government roughly a third of what it wanted. Write that down. A federal judge looked at the same file the prosecutors did and cut their number by more than half. FACT: on January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering the January 6 prosecutions. FACT, and this archive prints it plainly because the record does not lie: Dale Huttle's nephew, Matthew Huttle, who traveled to Washington with him and was covered by that same January 20, 2025 clemency, was shot and killed by a Jasper County, Indiana sheriff's deputy during a traffic stop on January 26, 2025.
