He pleaded not guilty, twice, and he made the government prove it. That is worth saying out loud. Start there. HIS STORY FACT: Craig Michael Bingert is from the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania. WFMZ, Lehigh Valley Public Media, and The Morning Call all covered him as a local man. He was one of roughly 85 Pennsylvanians charged in connection with January 6. FACT: He was never a fugitive. He was arrested January 18, 2021 and remained on personal recognizance, out in his community, through the pretrial life of his case. HIS FIGHT FACT: Bingert was indicted February 5, 2021. He was arraigned February 12, 2021 and pleaded not guilty to all counts. FACT: A superseding indictment issued May 7, 2021. He was arraigned again August 5, 2021 and again pleaded not guilty to all counts. He did not take an early plea to make it go away. FACT: He was convicted at a 2023 bench trial in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. WFMZ and Lehigh Valley Public Media covered the verdict, and the judge ruled against the government on part of the case. FACT: On January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency covering January 6 defendants. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE Charges are charges and a conviction is a conviction.
