Colby John Purkel of Covington, Louisiana went to Washington on January 6 with his father. The two of them stood in front of a magistrate together, and they stood in front of the country together. Covington is on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, St. Tammany Parish. Colby Purkel was 27 when the FBI came for him in November 2023, almost three full years after January 6. At the bond hearing, Colby Purkel told the magistrate judge that he and his father had already turned their firearms over to relatives and would not have access to them. Charged with one felony count of civil disorder and misdemeanor counts of entering or remaining in a restricted building, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, and parading or demonstrating in a Capitol building. He faced up to eight years. FACT. The allegation was that he joined a group pushing at the East Rotunda doors. CHARGE ONLY as to intent and conduct beyond what he admitted.
