Clayton Jones Jr. is a man from Northern Virginia whose January 6 case ran its course entirely on paper, without a single day of prison and without ever reaching a verdict. Clayton Jones Jr. was arrested August 26, 2024, in Greenville, North Carolina, for events the government says happened January 6, 2021, more than three and a half years before. The federal complaint, sworn before U.S. Magistrate Judge G. Michael Harvey, describes a man in a black jacket, camouflage hat, and thick grey beard who was inside the Capitol for about 37 minutes that afternoon. It lists his residence as Northern Virginia. That is the government's own description, nothing more, nothing less. Clayton Jones Jr. pleaded not guilty to every charge against him. A jury trial was set for August 25, 2025. It never happened. On January 21, 2025, one day after President Trump's clemency proclamation covering the January 6 prosecutions, the court granted the government's own motion to dismiss the case with prejudice. Read that twice. Not guilty plea. No trial. No conviction. No sentence. A case built, then dismissed by the same office that built it. Note for the record: there is a North Carolina judge who shares this name and was separately in the news for an unrelated domestic matter in which he was found not guilty. That is a different man, a different case, and this profile makes no claim about him one way or the other. This page is about the Clayton Jones Jr. named in federal case 1:24-mj-00262-GMH.
