Christopher Warnagiris is a career United States Marine. FACT: He enlisted in 2002 and rose to the rank of major, serving at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia with the Marine Air-Ground Task Force Staff Training Program (NPR; Marine Corps Times; Military.com). He was the first active-duty service member charged in connection with January 6. After his 2021 arrest, the Marine Corps moved to separate him from the service (Military.com). The legal fight, plainly: Warnagiris was indicted on nine counts. The most serious were felonies — civil disorder, obstruction of an official proceeding, and assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers — alongside misdemeanor counts. He pleaded not guilty to all of them. He waived a jury and went to a bench trial before Senior U.S. District Judge Paul Friedman on April 1-5, 2024; the court held the verdict pending the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on the obstruction statute in Fischer v. United States (Courthouse News; WUSA9). NEEDS AUTHENTICATION: the final verdict and any sentence are not reflected in the public records reviewed here. On January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency to January 6 defendants. CASE RECORD Case No. 1:21-cr-382 — U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Arrested May 13, 2021. Indicted June 2, 2021; superseding indictments December 1, 2021 and March 22, 2023. Bench trial April 1-5, 2024. This profile is unclaimed.
