Casey Cusick is a minister from Melbourne, Florida, a Bible college graduate who serves alongside his father in the church his family built. A pastor and his dad. That is who the United States government put on trial for misdemeanors. FACT: Casey Cusick of Melbourne, Florida is listed as vice president of Global Outreach Ministries Church. His father, James Varnell Cusick Jr., is the pastor and ministry president (Religion Unplugged, July 24, 2023; Christian Post). FACT: Casey Cusick graduated from Rhema Bible Training College in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2014. His father graduated from the same college in 1979 (Religion Unplugged). FACT: He was arrested in June 2021 and charged with misdemeanors: entering or remaining in a restricted building without lawful authority, disorderly or disruptive conduct in a restricted building, and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds (DOJ; The Hill, June 2021). FACT: Both father and son were found guilty by a federal judge of misdemeanor counts and remained free on bond after conviction. Sentencing was set for October 12, 2023. Both said they planned to appeal (Religion Unplugged). THE STORY AND THE CALLING Casey Cusick is a second generation minister. His father built Global Outreach Ministries in Melbourne, Florida and trained at Rhema. Casey followed him to the same Bible college a generation later and came home to serve in the same church. No felony. No assault charge. Misdemeanor trespass counts against a Florida pastor and his son. FACT: On January 20, 2025 the President issued a proclamation granting pardons and commutation of sentences for offenses relating to the events at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021.
