Brien Arin Burton is a 44 year old Midland, Michigan man who sat down with FBI investigators, identified himself in their photographs, and told them he was the one who got hurt. He did not hide. He did not lawyer up and go quiet. He talked, and he pointed at himself in the pictures. FACT: Brien Burton is from Midland, Michigan and was 44 years old when the January 6 charges were filed in October 2024 (WCMU Public Media, October 10, 2024; ABC12; Detroit News). FACT: He willingly spoke to FBI investigators and identified himself in photographs taken at the Capitol (WCMU, October 10, 2024). THEIR ACCOUNT: Burton told investigators he was tackled by an officer and believed the officer broke one of his ribs (WCMU; Detroit News, October 9, 2024). CHARGE ONLY: Burton was charged in October 2024 with seven federal counts, including assaulting, resisting and impeding officers and civil disorder, based on body camera footage (WCMU; ABC12). These are allegations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. NEEDS AUTHENTICATION: the final disposition of the federal case. THE STORY Midland sits on the Tittabawassee in mid Michigan. Brien Arin Burton is a Midland man, and he was the 32nd Michigander charged in a January 6 case, nearly four years after the day itself. He is also one of the few who walked in and talked to the FBI on his own. That is not the behavior of a man hiding from the record. FACT: On January 20, 2025 the President issued a proclamation granting pardons and commutation of sentences for offenses relating to the events at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. NEEDS AUTHENTICATION: the effect of that proclamation on Burton's pending counts, and the current docket posture. Pull the docket before anyone states an outcome. WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE: a charge is not a conviction. Nothing on this page establishes guilt. THE CASE RECORD U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Charged October 2024. NEEDS AUTHENTICATION: case number. Do not threaten anyone. Do not harass anyone. Do not contact anyone in my name. Read it. Share it. Send receipts, evidence, witnesses. Put eyes on the record.
