Brent Meldrum is a Massachusetts man charged in December 2023 in one of the later-filed January 6 cases, and his case ended in dismissal, not a verdict. FACT: Federal prosecutors charged Meldrum in December 2023, nearly three years after the Capitol breach, as first reported by court-records journalist Seamus Hughes. His case was docketed as United States v. Meldrum, No. 1:24-cr-00465, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. (CourtListener) FACT: Court records show Meldrum entered guilty pleas to two misdemeanor counts, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building. Sentencing had been scheduled for May 8, 2025, but never happened. (public docket) NEEDS AUTHENTICATION: DOJ press materials referenced a felony count in connection with this docket. The public docket record reviewed for this profile shows the two misdemeanor pleas above. Flagged for Ryan's review before any felony language is published on this page. IDENTITY GUARD: There is a different Brent Meldrum, a longtime hospital-board member in Elma, Washington, unrelated to this case. This profile is about the Massachusetts January 6 defendant only. Do not conflate the two. FACT: On February 11, 2025, the court ordered the case dismissed without prejudice, following the January 20, 2025 clemency proclamation. (public docket) WHERE THINGS STAND: Charged, pleaded to two misdemeanors, never sentenced. Dismissed under the clemency order before it ever reached a judgment. CASE RECORD Case No. 1:24-cr-00465, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Charged December 2023. Guilty pleas entered. Sentencing scheduled May 8, 2025.
