Abram Markofski is a young man from La Crosse, Wisconsin who was serving his country in uniform when January 6 happened. FACT: At the time, Abram was a citizen-soldier. He enlisted in the Wisconsin Army National Guard in July 2019 and served as a private first class with the 1st Battalion, 128th Infantry (La Crosse Tribune; FOX9). He was one of several Wisconsin Guard members identified in connection with the Capitol that day, and the Guard moved to remove him from its ranks after his guilty plea. FACT: Reporting on his case noted there was no evidence he took part in any violence or destruction at the Capitol, and that he was cooperative with law enforcement before and after his arrest (La Crosse Tribune). FACT: He was charged with four misdemeanor counts and pleaded guilty to one, parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building. On December 10, 2021 he was sentenced to 24 months of probation, $500 in restitution, and a $1,000 fine (Kenosha News). Statewide reporting on Wisconsin's January 6 defendants counted him among only a handful from the state and noted he was not among those who received jail time (WPR). WHERE THINGS STAND: On January 20, 2025, President Trump granted clemency to January 6 defendants. A young Wisconsin Guardsman's case is now closed, his service to his state and country a matter of record alongside it, and if this is Abram or his family, this page is open to the fuller story.
