Court partially grants press access to video shown at Klein detention hearing

Judge John D. Bates held that video clips actually shown during Federico Klein’s April 9, 2021 detention hearing were judicial records subject to a strong presumption of public access. The court permitted copying and publication of those clips but denied access through this application to videos merely referenced in filings and never presented to the court. The ruling concerned record access, not guilt.
